Squeak is a small place for small groups. These guidelines apply to every nest, every burrow (channel), every DM, and every voice room on the platform. They exist so the burrow stays cosy for everyone. By using Squeak, you agree to follow them.
1. The five rules
- Be a decent rat. Don't harass, dox, threaten, demean, or stalk anyone. No slurs, no targeted hate, no weaponised "jokes." If your message would humiliate the person on the other end if read out loud, don't send it.
- Respect consent. Don't share private messages, voice clips, screenshots, or screen-shares from a Squeak room without the participants' clear permission. Don't record voice or video in a private nest without telling everyone.
- Keep it legal. No CSAM, no terrorism content, no doxxing, no non-consensual intimate imagery, no sale of regulated goods or stolen data, no commercial spam.
- Don't be a jerk to the system. No mass-account creation, no automated abuse, no exploiting bugs to grief other users, no bypassing bans, and no using Squeak to attack other services.
- Keep adult content out of public spaces. If your nest is public-listed, it must be SFW. NSFW is allowed in private nests, age-gated and clearly labelled — but never in any room a minor could plausibly be in.
2. Hate, harassment, threats
We have zero tolerance for content that targets people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or serious medical condition. That includes "ironic" or "edgy" framings.
We also have zero tolerance for credible threats of violence — to another person, group, or yourself — and for content that promotes self-harm.
If you're struggling with thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to a trusted person or a crisis line in your country. Squeak is not a clinical service, and we'd rather you be safe than online.
3. Minors
You must be at least 13 years old to use Squeak (or older where local law requires). Adult content involving anyone under 18 is strictly forbidden, regardless of how it's framed or generated. We report violations to the relevant authorities.
4. Privacy and impersonation
- Don't share other people's private information (real names, addresses, phone numbers, IDs, financial details) without consent.
- Don't impersonate another person, brand, or Squeak / Labrats Initiative staff in a way intended to deceive.
- Don't try to extract private information from another user under false pretences (phishing, social engineering, fake support).
5. Voice and screen share
Voice rooms feel intimate by design — please treat them that way:
- Don't record audio, video, or screens without telling everyone in the room. "Pressing record" silently is not okay.
- Don't blast loud audio, soundboards, or sirens at people without their explicit consent.
- Don't use screen share to expose others to graphic, sexual, or violent content unprompted.
6. Bots, automation, integrations
You may build bots and webhooks against the Squeak Bot API, but:
- Bots must clearly identify themselves — no impersonating humans.
- Don't use bots to spam, scrape user data, mass-DM, or evade moderation.
- Respect rate limits. Repeatedly hammering the API is grounds for having your token revoked.
- Don't pipe Squeak content through services that train models on user data without the users' consent.
7. Server / nest owners
If you run a nest, you're its first line of moderation. Please:
- Apply these guidelines inside your nest. If you can't or won't, keep your nest small and private.
- Pick mods you trust. Their role is to enforce the rules, not to settle personal grudges.
- Don't promote your nest publicly with content (names, descriptions, stickers) that violates these rules.
8. Reporting
If you see something that breaks these rules, please email trust@squeak.im with as much context as you can — links, screenshots, timestamps. We read every report.
Reports are confidential. We won't share your name with the person you reported.
9. What happens when rules break
Depending on severity and context, we may:
- Remove the offending content
- Apply a temporary timeout to the user or the nest
- Permanently ban the user or shut down the nest
- Report to law enforcement when required by law
We try to err on the side of education for first-time, good-faith mistakes — and on the side of permanent removal for anything targeting minors, threatening real-world violence, or operating at scale (spam, automation abuse, coordinated harassment).
10. Appeals
If you think we got an enforcement decision wrong, email appeals@squeak.im from the same email tied to your account. Include the reason. We'll re-review with fresh eyes.
11. Changes
We'll update these guidelines as the platform grows or as new patterns of abuse emerge. Material changes will be announced in-app and dated at the top of this page. Continued use of Squeak after a change means you agree to the updated guidelines.
